First GBZ screen help

Post by Eragon615 » Sun Nov 05, 2017 11:23 am

Hey all, I've almost finished my first GBZ and I'm excited to play it. But I can't get video working for the life of me. The first one I bought was a gearbest screen because it looked super easy to mod. But the board I got is different from the one I see on the wiki.

So I got a backup camera on Amazon and got a board I really like. It fits really well into the way I want to lay out the components. Also there were modding instructions. I modded it and gave it power, I get a very faint flicker, then nothing. No backlight, nothing. Did I do it wrong?

At first I was determined to figure it out without help, but I just want to play this thing already. Please advise.

One more thing to troubleshoot I suppose. I linked them to an account I just created for the sole purpose of uploading this on imgbb.com. It was the first result Google has for free image hosting. Maybe it takes a bit since it's a new account? Or is there a better way?

Nevermind, got it.

The better way is to use the full editor here and drag’n’drop images to the text box

Fyi the newer iteration of the gearbest screens do not need 5v mod. (The one you bought)

So, I originally wired my pi zero to power with the gpio because those tiny pad proved difficult to solder with my rapidly oxidizing iron. I'd plug in the USB and get power all the way back to my battery boost (the charging light would come on, which I didn't expect). I ran the yellow wire to the TV slot on the gpio as shown in helders diagram. No picture. Just a very faint flicker when power was supplied. I figured even if I botched the retro pi install, I should still get a boot image, right?

Hi, with regards to image exhibit A - just connect +5V vcc to the pin on the right of the picture. I have drafted it on the attached image

I've used this board many times. That mod you performed Is not necessary. At least not on my last 6 screens. It won't hurt anything. But it isn't needed. Just an fyi.
