My Gameboy Zero project
Hey everyone,
I'm Casper, a 17 year old, and last year I started working on my own version off the gameboy zero.
I'm working on it for quite a long time now, and I learned a lot of it. I have made my mistakes, which were frustrating, but learnfull.
The gameboy is almost done. Here is a list of parts I used:
Parts:
Gameboy dmg 01 housing
Screen
Custom Button pcb
Speaker (YX 049)
Amplifier (mono class D)
Cables
Power Booster/Battery Charger
Micro usb Breakout board (recommended)
L+R Buttons
Potentiometer
Teensy 2.0 (Not shown on foto, added later)
Silicon pads for buttons (YX 024)
Screen protector (optional)
Screen bracket (recommended, files are free for download)
Button wells (Optional, files are free for download)
Battery (I recommend above 2000 mah)
Female usb port
RC filter (consists of:)
10uF electrolytic capacitor, 33nF ceramic capacitor (if you can’t find 33nF, then 10nF will work fine as well), 150 Ohm resistor, 270 Ohm resistor
Save shutdown pcb (for powerboost 1000C)
Tools:
(Decent) Soldering iron
Dremel (rotary, sanding)
Philips flat head screwdriver
A set of files
Hot glue gun
I'm new to this forum so I may make some mistakes as a newbie
plz give me advice.

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
Hey, welcome to the forum, that looks like it's turning out good. I've just finished a clear build, you can see in my signature (#8).
One piece of advise, you can upload individual photos so they show in the post, rather than us having to download a zip file. Or use an image hosting service like Imgur.
Good luck finishing it off. The forums are full of great info, if you can't find an answer to a question, be sure to post for help!

Hi Casperdroid5, welcome! There's a lot of good information here and probably most questions are already answered. Otherwise, just ask. Make sure to use the forum's search function. I'm on my ipad so i cannot see the photos you attached. I hope you can upload them as what rodocop has mentioned.

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
I'm very disappointed to say this, but today was a horrible day,
I broke the rear view car monitor screen, that I modified, and when I trimmed down the kedei screen with hdmi, as a replacement, it seems Like I destroyed that screen too. I'm very sad about this, and very discouraged to continue this project...
It's starting to become too expensive for me.

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
When I started building my first hdmi build I accidentally dropped the board while trimming it with a dremel and got the screen ribbon broke. I ordered another one but also ripped the ribbon again while separating the board from the lcd. So ordered another one but got it successfully this time. I must admit i almost gave up but I learned a lot from that experience. So don't give up.Casperdroid5 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 7:24 amI'm very disappointed to say this, but today was a horrible day,

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
thanks, I really appreciate it to hear that i'm not the only making (big) mistakes.
The thing is that i also messed up 2 cases. the third was a succes. so I almost wasted 50$ on mistakes.
well mistakes? maybe experience is a better word. I'm going to buy a new car screen. Or HDMI it depends on what is the easies/cheapest
Do you have a particular model that would be easy to modify?

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
I suggest you start with a composite screen which is the easiest to use. This one https://www.gearbest.com/development-bo ... 29447.html works on 5v without the need to modify the board.Casperdroid5 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 7:57 amthanks, I really appreciate it to hear that i'm not the only making (big) mistakes.

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
First of all thank you for your Help! it means very much to me!
Second I would like what HDMI screen you used and if I can slide it in my casing without (a lot) of modifaction?
my kedei screen did not fit (that's why the dremel exident happend). so did yours fit?
and when I was checking your build, wich was very nice btw, I was wondering if you had already found a suitable hdmi cable or easy modifiable one?
sorry for my poor english, i'm actually dutch hihi.
PS orderd the screen you linked.

Re: My Gameboy Zero project
Your English is fine don't worry about it. The keidei HMDI screen i used were of the old versions. I don't think it's still available. I checked my purchase history on aliexpress and it's not for sale anymore. Maybe someone here knows where to get one.Casperdroid5 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 8:34 amFirst of all thank you for your Help! it means very much to me!

Later keide screens are a little wider.
