Original volume wheel in Wermy's build?
Original volume wheel in Wermy's build?
Hi
I was not able to find that information. Is the original volume wheel used in Wermy's build, hence, will this be part of one of the missing tutorials?
Cheers,
Bendra

@wermy mentioned in another post that the next guide will be released tonight. Be patient, it is nearly here! Woot woot!Fleder wrote:Yes, it is. And i think it will be in the next one, yes.Bendra wrote:Hi

Edit: likely be released. Don't want to put the cart before the horse.

@Kilren @Fleder @Bendra
Working on it!
I actually had some computer issues this morning where my edited-and-cut version of the guide (which was ready to be uploaded to Youtube) got overwritten.
so, about 3-4 hours of picking through videos, editing, etc. later I'm almost done.
As for the volume wheel: In my first build it is *not* the original volume wheel. Reason being, the Game Boy potentiometer for the volume is notorious for getting dirty/gunked up to the point that it causes all kinds of popping/static sounds when adjusting the volume, and you'll have sudden jumps in volume when trying to adjust it, etc. So the options are take apart the original one and clean it (I've seen some guides online and it's kind of a pain), or just put a replacement one in there. I just used a 10k Ohm one from Radio Shack.

That stinks, but I am not sure if I am sympathetic or not because I know the pain, but the save button seems to be my own personal arch nemesis (I've felt your own pain to many times and just have become numb!wermy wrote:Working on it!I actually had some computer issues this morning where my edited-and-cut version of the guide (which was ready to be uploaded to Youtube) got overwritten.

I have a very love-hate relationship with Mac OS (as opposed to Windows which is mostly hate-hate) -- there IS no save button on iMovie! It just saves whenever it thinks is best. Looking forward to whenever it gets here.
It "just works."... And then causes an extra 3-4 hours of work.
Anyway, exporting now.

Like this one? https://www.radioshack.com/products/rad ... 5717251717wermy wrote:I just used a 10k Ohm one from Radio Shack.
And is it important that it has 5 pins or would a 3 pin version work as well?

Re: Original volume wheel in Wermy's build?
Shoot! @Bendra, I just edited your post by accident! Hahahaha. Sorry
Edit: My actual post that I instead edited bendra's post saying > That 10k pot works really well. But it is a real pain in the #@$! for a couple of reasons. Soldering it is just not fun, and it is so small that installing it is also a chore. I'm interested in seeing how wermy did his. I chose a different route all together though and used usb audio for the overall audio system.

Re: Original volume wheel in Wermy's build?
I bought that one because i thought i would need it but my problem with it is that the wheel isn't as thick as the original, so it doesn't seem like it will fit or feel as good to use. Are we able to switch out the wheel itself off the original? Oh well, at least i don't have to make another trip to radioshack.wermy wrote:I just used a 10k Ohm one from Radio Shack.
I have always hated this expression. If it "just works", then you wouldn't need help desks at every apple store now would you?wermy wrote:It "just works."... And then causes an extra 3-4 hours of work.
