Doesn t stay on

Post by gliuvo » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:06 pm

Hi i’m done with my third build and i can’t figure out this thing

I’m using the powerboost from gearbest with a galaxy s2 battery

All the system works perfectly while 5v charging input is connected but as soon as i remove the cable it shuts down

I changed the powerboost with a TP4056 and it works but the power is not enough so it shuts down or it goes realy slow, i bought a new powerboost from gearbest, a new battery, i put other 3 different batteries but i’m still having the same issue...

My build is made of:
Pi 3
Arduino pro micro
Usb amplifier
Pad board like this https://goo.gl/images/KUD8fQ
Rearview monitor modified for 5v

here a few images:

Can anybody help me?

Thanks

Might not be enough to power a pi3? Could consider an adafruit 1000c (not sure it would be much better). But I'd assume it's not working since a pi3 needs 5v 2.5amp usually. While the powerboost you're using is only 5v 1amp.

Check out helders new board too. Might be a good option:

First disconnect the powerboost and battery, connect a microusb cable from a good power adapter, turn it on, and play for a bit while. If everything works then you have problem with your boost or battery.

If the GearBest PowerBoost can deliver 1A then it should work fine but depends on how many devices you're using with your build.i have tested it with a couple of Pi3 but not with actual build. I use it for Pi zero builds most of the time.

I often use this 5v Boost module for pi3 builds. Has nice heat dissipation pad at the bottom.

Or use helder's Retro PSU. The 3.5A capacity is very nice and should be more than enough for pi3 builds.

Thank you guys, i tried powering it up with just an ipad charging adapter that provides 2a without using the power boost and it works so i decided to try this

yeah, i have some of those at home, they work fine, only problem I notice, is that when you have a micro usb plugged in to the input (charging), and unplug it, the power dips, and the pi shuts off. Not an issue if you don't unplug it, or if you unplug it when it's powered off.

I have not yet looked into a way to avoid that. But it would be nice to see how they work for you.

I’ve used PowerBoost 1000 Basic with my pi3 builds
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2030
It just works fine, No powering issues.
And i use the Tp4065 for charging because the adafruit one doesn’t have charging features

I’m start thinking that the powerboost is not the problem...

Today i tried with this

which gives 2A output and still nothing...

I think i really need more than 2A 😩
