thanks infinitloop for the quick reply, i have not test it like that and i will do that today sounds good. one thing i did notice now that you mentioned it the potentiometer at one point started gettting really hot, to the point that it melted the glue that was holding it in place, and while this was happening at full volume the speaker made noise at top volume but i shut it off scared something was burning.
oh yes when i run the script all the programming thats on that page shows up on the pi , it does not ask me for anything and ir reads malformed it does seem the script is not running because when i checked the files manually it didnt change any of the files it was supposed to change. i did do a manual install thats when the pi started crashing and after i went into the config txt file and enabled the i2s and uncommented the audio param - on and the error disappear but im still getting no audio am still gonna test it like you said tho
running raspberry pi zero W
retro pi 4.4 for pi 1/zero
glitch gaming board
b103 potentiometer rated for 10k ohm i also have a b503 rated for 50k ohm but have not test it i dont know if the dial matters :(

the pots can get fairly hot without destroying them, i think. they are just resistors, so as long as it's still in one piece, it's probably ok. if you want to keep it in there, use the 103 / 10k one. but, if you want to make sure it's not the issue, just run a wire between the two not-ground audio pads on the board, and that should route the signal straight through to the headphone jack.

this is the relevant stuff from my working config.txt (make sure you don't have conflicting settings somewhere else in thre too):

Code: Select all

#dtparam=i2c_arm=on
dtparam=i2s=on
#dtparam=spi=on

# Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
#dtparam=audio=on
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac
dtoverlay=i2s-mmap

I had a sound issue on my tinnkerboy boards. It was due to configuration on config.txt :)
I am rebuilding mine at the moment. I can send you my config.txt when i have the time :)

well, first - the tinkerboy aio board uses usb and the glitch'd uses i2s, so they aren't compatible for the audio setup, if that's what you're trying.

it's hard to make out what's happening in those screenshots, but it kind of looks like there are bad characters or something in the config files. when you make changes to the files, how are you doing that? if you are on windows, using notepad (or, god forbid, wordpad), then you are likely messing up the format. linux uses different character sets for things, so it can confuse it. download something like notepad+ or notepad2 that supports more formats

maybe you need a "sudo" in there before the bash...

Code: Select all

curl -sS https://raw.githubusercontent.com/adafruit/Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts/master/i2samp.sh | sudo bash

i know that about the boards but the glitch gaming uses the i2s with the script i just type it in the gameboy itself with a keyboard

right, but the tinkerboy board has usb audio set up by default, so that might cause problems. to get i2s to work, you need to enable the digital audio output at the 3 pins that it uses, which is what the script does. you can read through it here:

https://github.com/adafruit/Raspberry-P ... /i2samp.sh

unless you do that, nothing is going to make the audio work. although, the board does have a few usb connections, so you could just put a usb card in there too.
