Maybe not *quite* what you're expecting... We'll see. :)

I'll probably end up either putting a Zero or CHIP in mine, only because I want to keep the battery holder in-tact so I can use the same size battery that the Wii U has, maybe one with more juice though.
The wii u battery capacity is garbage to be honest. Less than 2.5 hours of gaming on it. The battery case actually has A LOT more room in it that it just doesn't use; you can easily fit a far larger battery in the thing. Like i said before, i'm going for 10k mAh.

Just wanted to compare the gamepad to the official raspberry pi display. 6.2 inches vs 7 inches. Probably too big right?

Well, either cut it down if possible and trim the visible area to match the cutout of the wii u case or make a bigger cutout :)

I found this element14 thread of someone putting a pi in their gamepad, and another user posted this video fairly recently of his almost entirely working, aside from the joysticks and some sort of power issue.

He's using this display: 6.2inch TFT TIANMA TM062RDH03 60 Pin LCD Screen Panel Module Controller 800x480

The LCD-only can be found here: 6.2 inch LCD screen TM062RDH03 original car DVD

Now, @Fleder you're also working on this project correct? :)

Moving over from @Kite 's thread, I think we should continue the conversation here. Now, you said want to try to use the original Wii U Gamepad LCD... :D

Hi, no not yet. I am still trying to finish my GBZ first. But then, the next project will be the Wii0Pad.
Yes, if it is possible, i want to reuse the existing LCD. The problem is, i failed getting any datasheets and there is no cheap controller board around i could use.

Hi guys, I did a little more inspecting on images, and I have come to the conclusion that the LCD is NOT using 'DPI' but instead is using 'DSI' .. DPI is open on the Pi, DSI is closed source (for now).. so it doesn't look possible to reuse the existing LCD..

Here is the evidence. You can see that the connector has equal length 'lanes' surrounded by bigger traces (ground) rather than the expected 18-24 parrallel lines (for DPI RGB):

When DSI is more open, technically the 'Display Connector' on the Pi will be able to run this LCD (ribbon adapter would be needed though) so when supported it would be a lot easier to use, however not possible at the moment! That 6.2" one though I would like to get my hands on and make an adapter for it, if anyone has one? :)

Oh darn, what a pitty.

The 2 6.2" displays that you can buy widely are called
HSD062IDW1
and the other one is
TM062RDH03

Both are available for around 15-20$ and have datasheets freely available.

If you think you can do this, i will look into buying and sending you one.

I put together a small spreadsheet comparing those two LCD's:

They seem to be interchangeable just looking at the ribbon cable pinout given in each datasheet, @kite could you confirm this?

Yep they have the same pinout! So both are interchangeable.

EDIT: I have been looking at the datasheet and need to do some gamma reference voltages, the datasheet isn't overly helpful at specifying this so if anyone does have a driver board for that LCD, I need a CLEAR picture of the following (so that I can read the numbers on the black components (resistors):

Image

Or better yet when I eventually get round to getting one, having one in hand will be much easier to measure with a multimeter.. there are some other awkward things such as the datasheet says it needs -7V and +15V! As well as some other strange pins.. so having a driver board is the easiest way to reverse engineer it..
