Gameboy Zero Pi3a - 800x600 Hdmi Screen
Hello Friends,
I´ve made an new GBZ with an 800x600 HDMI Display....
Powered by Helders Retro PSU and Tinkerboard 3.0.
This time I used a original GB case from a broken unit.
Display can be found here:
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/3-5-zoll ... 2d7bd9aa0d
The rest ist a classic setup with an AIO Board by Tinkerboy. All Helpers are designed by myself.
The HDMI cable is also soldered by myself. The screen has to be setup for the first time to achive a permanent "HDMI In" function. I reduced the screen brightness to 35% because it´s to bright.
Desoldering all the connections pins from the driverboard must be done. It runs OOTB by 5V, so no voltage tweak is needed.
Sound can be taken direct from the L+R analoge pins of the pi3a if you use a common ground button pcb and GPIO setup.

Great work on this build! How’s the HDMI screen’s performance compared to a composite one?

Hello Tinkerboy...
the Screen performance is amazing. Fully 60fps, no tearing and extreme brightness....

That screen seems extremely impressive for the price; and seems to be relatively low-effort to get working. I might need to do a 3A+ build of my own with one of these.
With some investigation, one would think it'd be possible to hack in some external brightness controls somehow. I've kind of spoiled myself being able to crank the brightness WAAAY down when I'm indoors, and WAAAY up when I'm outdoors.

how is the power consumption on the screen? that's a lot of components on there...
did you have to shave the case down at all to get it to fit, lengthwise?

Some of my builds...
BMO GBZ
Star Wars Millenium Falcon Challenge
Game Boy Color Zero
... and another Gameboy Color Zero with custom 3D-printed parts
"Ultimate" 3A+ Build
GlowBoy Zero
Some 3d designs I've done...
Soft Tactile Shoulder Buttons, for screw-hole, well mounting
Snap-in, Soft Tactile Shoulder Button insert, for screw-hole, well mounting
Pac-Man and Space Invaders Themed Rear Fan Holder

Re: Gameboy Zero Pi3a - 800x600 Hdmi Screen
power consumption is about 400-450 mah... Yes, it´s much. But with pi3a and a 4000 mah battery I got 2 1/2 h playtime.
The input control for the screen menu are simple common ground buttons...you need 4: Menu, +,-,back button.
Yes, you have to desolder all connectors from mainboard... but it´s much easier than desoldering a Pi3a. For this build I used a original GB case, no modifications on the case are needed. It fit perfect. With other third party cases you have to shave the case for 0,5 mm on left and right side.

Very nice. Any chance we could get this working with a kite circuit sword or would it require significant modification?
