Micro SD card flashing problem

Post by Gizard » Sun Feb 03, 2019 3:51 pm

Lately, when I flash a retropie image to a micro sd card, the sd card's capacity becomes 55 mbs. I first thought that this was because I had pulled the sd card out of my computer without ejecting it too many times, but then it happened with a brand new sd card. I figured out how to restore the sd card to its original capacity, but it just happens again. I'm using Etcher to flash btw. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks in advance.

That is normal, since you are using windows (?) and the other system partition is linux-based, so windows wont see it.
Just put it in the raspberry, will work fine..

Ahhh dude....
This is a rookie assumption your making....

The SD cards are most probably fine...
If your trying access and view the SDCard via a PC/Laptop it is always going to show around 50-60mb...

You CAN’T view/access the SDCard completely/fully on a PC/Laptop because you’ve just installed/flashed it to Linux (which is a different file system to windows)

You can only access the root files (like Config.txt)

Put the SDCard into the RPi and it should be fine...

If you were thinking of adding Roms/games to the SDCard via windows...
This can be done over your network
Or you will need another piece of software to access it...

When you install retropie to an sdcard it partitions it to two drive. One is a small FAT32 partition drive which can be natively accessed in Windows and the other partition is a common Linux file system called EXT. You cannot usually have access to the Linux drive in Windows without using any special software like ext2read.

Thanks, everyone for letting me know what's going on, I really appreciate it. If there is nothing wrong with my sd cards, then why does nothing happen when I pop them into my 3 b+?

I have this problem with Retropie 4.4, recalbox, the custom image for the gameboy null, and the custom image for the waveshare game hat.

The problem was within my Pi 3 b +, but i have another question: how do I return my sd card back to its regular capacity once I'm done using it for retropie? I want to use an sd card for stl files, but nothing fits onto it since its 55mb. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Update: I tried to run first aid, but the 'process failed'. Now my mac says: the disk was not readable by this computer

Try using the SD Memory Card Formatter. I use it all time for formatting sdcards.
